The glamorous Myrna Loy was a prolific star of Old Hollywood.
This talented American Actress starred in 129 motion pictures!
Her movies span across all genres, from drama, to mystery, to romance, to comedy, from the 1920s to the 1980s.
In her films, she starred alongside other Old Hollywood legendary stars like Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Tyrone Power, Montgomery Clift, Henry Fonda and even Paul Newman.
As a young girl, Myrna Adele Williams, who was of Welsh and Scottish ancestry, grew up on a ranch in rural Montana.
Loy’s mother enrolled her in dance at a young age. They moved to Los Angeles when Myrna Loy was thirteen.
In the 1920s, she started landing some minor roles in silent films.
Finally, in the 1930s, a producer noticed her sense of humor and cast her opposite William Powell as his society detective wife in the hit The Thin Man.
She gained major stardom with this role.
In face, the successful pairing and sizzle of this couple was so popular, that they would ultimately star in 14 films together.
Although Myrna Loy was never was nominated for an Academy Award, in 1991 she received an Honorary Academy Award for her incredible acting performances onscreen and on stage.
This medal also acknowledged her selfless service in the Red Cross during World War II, and to the U.S. Commission to UNESCO.
